Remembered the MG 30 but not the MG 39.
Something ive heard is the vibration in the mg 42 was so bad it would shake troops and basically blind there senses.. it being joked or atualy done (idr) that the asistint would tap the solders helmet to tell them which way to fire.. basically making them apart of the gun. And i remember thinking it might of been better to train monkys to fire it..
Salemander is wrong name. He 162 "Spatz"
Great
The fact the mg42 has "offspring" to this day and the 34 doesn't... I'd say the 34 is more an art work, a conversation piece whereas the 42 is an actual weapon of war
Good Video/Info.
MG 34 An elegant weapon, for a more... civilized age
A beautiful fighter with a rare tail skid
Legally utilizing legislation loopholes is a huge tactic of any modern foe and postmodern foe. The question is how to fix these issues without a bureaucracy that'll inevitably becomes corrupted.
the ww1 maxim style machine guns are reliable but big and heavy
he has become legendary icon
This plane fits in a Batman movie, it's incredible!, nice work!
Shout out to ion dobran
the best looking planes during the war
The 42 cost 25% less to make and it could be made in half the time so that is why is was used.
Every WW2 expert in the comments with it's wikipedia knowledge calling out the supposed flaws in the video is on this comment section. 😂
Good overall (and decent) presentation/narrative and footage, but the uploader here has got to (or _must)_ speak and _enunciate_ his (rather hurried/tensed) words much more clearly to the viewer. (I found myself not only [literally] struggling to decipher many of the words the narrator had spoken, but equally, having to caption to-and-fro [which didn't help much either] was a pain as well.) It wouldn't have hurt [the speaker] to add some [much needed] vitality, character, and intonation in his voice, expressing an _ad captandum vulgus,_ towards captivating his audience - and perhaps a little dose of _ad rem_ irony could have gone a long way (towards the dryness of the subject/narrative tone) here as well.
My Dad fought in Belgium in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a Sergeant in the Army and a P.O.W., he and his men dug under a fence and escaped the Nazis. I miss my Dad, he died in 1972. ✨❣️✨
I’m Hungarian, what a cool craft ! My Dad fought in the Battle of the Bulge in 1945, he was a U.S. Army Sergeant, a Real Hero. ✨🇺🇸✨
They are not comparable.
Thanks for a brilliant lesson!
Remarkably, the greatest loaded, air superiority fighter weight was around 5780 lbs, which is phenominal for an improvised sheet welded and tube central fusilage structure. It did not use the Claude Dornier, Hugo Junkers, Dr Richard Voight Electrosol method. Its a mass was roughly 980 to 1060 lbs less than the FW 190. Curiously, with the 1140 hp LeRhone or the 1160;hp Bristol Taurus it had a small ceiling advantage on the Butcher Bird.
Truly better? Maybe so. But if the MG-42 had been engineered and built as well as the MG-34? A different story.
Are you sure about mg42 being inaccurate last time i saw a mg42 demonstration was highly accurate!
This is by far my favorite event in World War II to lesrn about it doesnt get near enough the attention that it deserves.
Que tecnologia fantástica dos alemães isso a 80 anos atrás. Só perderam a guerra por falta de materiais belicos. Por que estavam 10 anos a frente dos aliados
The Scottish 51st Division were also ‘left behind’ to increase the size of the French rearguard. They fought to virtual annihilation in support of the French effort to defend Dunkirk. Also some 40,000 French troops were evacuated to the UK along with the main British contingent.
The MG 42 obviously has flaws in it`s construction in that it`s too light it keeps moving backwards & rattle when firing.
I admire the clever design and machining of the mg34. I would love disassembling and appreciating all the nuances of the weapon. However, if I'm going to war, the mg42 is coming with me.
No mention of the fact that the Brits intercepted enigma transmissions , which ALSO lead to the downfall of the U-Boats
Incredible
I think that the MG 34 was over complicated
MG42 is the best machinegun of ALL TIME
Good work in video. Thanks👍🧐
Is the overall speckled/spotty appearance of the paint caused by the air brush? Was it caused by the final coat not drying clear? It's really obvious on the close ups.
Mark IV: Oh HELL NAH
Both are beautifully constructed except that the 42 should be precision manufactured.
Range: About the same between both MG's, 200-2000m. 5/5 - 5/5 Accuracy: 34 had semi-auto capability while 42 could only shoot full auto and with a extremely high rate of fire, giving it a huge edge. 5/5 vs 2/5 Reliability: 34 was simply too complicated and had too tight tolerances for mud/sand and jammed whereas the 42 was really reliable. 2/5 vs 5/5 Rate of Fire: 34 actually had a more practical rate of fire; achieved the same functions while wasting less ammunition. 4/5 vs 3.5/5 Versatility: German vehicles were designed to work with the 34 and they didn't want to change this mid war, but in the end they were both Universal MG's. The 42 had an edge as an AA gun. 4/5 vs 5/5 Design: the 34 was the more complicated gun and over-engineered, the 42 was a scaled down but more practical design. I'd say it depends on your design philosophy which you value more. 5/5 vs 5/5 Production: 42 was SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper, easier and quicker to produce using less rare materials and resulting in more guns on the battlefield quicker. 2/5 vs 5/5 Psychological: Both shot significantly faster than allied MG's but the 42's presence was definitely more felt than the 34's. 3/5 vs 5/5. Final score: MG34 - 30 VS MG42 - 35.5 Even though this method produced the same final result I don't think that all of these categories should be weighed equally, especially within the context of WW2 Germany. Reliability and cost/speed of production outweighed all the others exponentially. The MG42 would win by a an even larger margin as a result.
2:38 that is not and accurate scale representation of the two guns lol; they are virtually identical in length with the MG42 actually being 1mm longer. The barrel of the 34 is indeed longer (by about 4 inches) though the 42 has a longer receiver. The 42 also has a significantly wider receiver and barrel shroud giving it a larger profile, though is largely made of stamped steel or sheet metal which makes it weigh in over a pound lighter than the 34 which was mostly made of solid milled parts.
The MG42 is better than the MG34 in one key aspect; reliability. It is less complicated and has looser tolerances, so it can get dirty and still perform while the 34 is going to have issues. In the end that is what the soldiers cared about most, and it also helped they were cheaper and quicker to produce which meant more of them ended up on the battlefield. I will say that the really high rate of fire was a bit excessive though, to the point where I would probably give the edge to the 34. It's more accurate, uses less ammo while achieving a similar effect and has the capability of precision fire thru it's semi-auto function. If we're not taking into consideration reliability and cost it is the better gun. Like I said though, the reliability and availability issues proved to outweigh all the other pros of the 34 which ultimately led to the 42 being it's successor.
I would rather have the fire rate of the ‘34 over the ‘42. Faster doesn’t equal better.
I prefer the MG34
There's a nice movie about this aircraft and Nazi German convoy.. "The Pilot Battle for survival" Nice movie. I watched it👍👍
I'm not a supporter of Stalin at all, but in this case he was right! Look at the other belligerents' production figures! ('cept for us italians😔). Admittedly he is menacing in a kinda "mafia" fashion, but at that time Russia was on the brink of defeat.
Actually I wrote the comment attributed to my wife Ilse: The prizewinning novel "Das Fluessiges Land" by Raphaela Edelbauer (Klett Cotta) mentions the factory at Hinterbruehl. John Towler on his wife's computer.
I have a feeling Aeromodeller magazine published a piece about this plane complete with plan and elevation around 1947.
Paul's comments in the book of titus Aren't complimentary
Not forgotten. Never forgotten.
01:29 "Relatively thick armor" Shows a British Mark tank which had at max 15mm of armor. When your armor is 0.8 of an inch in no context does that deserve to be called ThIcK.
